I mean just look at spike’s face after she says that to him, it has a huge impact on him. it gives him faith when he’s captured and tortured by the first he keeps repeating to himself that she’ll come for him. he holds onto that so tight. “because she believes in me” it meant the world to him. she was saying she was proud of him, look what he’s done all so he could be better. he really did risk everything and she’s acknowledging that, and she has complete and total faith in him. she sees what he doesn’t see in himself. I think buffy always had a sort of belief in him, or the knowledge that he had this potential to be good, that he was different from other vampires. and when he needs her to help him, to give him strength, she does. she wants him to succeed, she wants him to fight to be better because she knows he can be, she knows he can be someone she could love. she can already see that man now, and she wants to help him reach his full potential.
